		<description>1,  The Lee Resolution, that the American colonies were, and of a right ought to be, free and independent states, having been adopted it was deemed that a Declaration of Intent be placed before the world stating, in Thomas Jefferson's words, "...the Common Sense of the matter in terms so clear and firm as to command their assent".  They knew that success required recognition from foreign powers such as Spain or France in order to establish trade and political connections independent of Britain.

2.  Read the Declaration, it is quite clear on the reasons for dissolving the ties with the Crown.</description>
